Until we open our doors that is. And we’re excited about it! In fact, while walking down Queen St. for the Easter parade brandishing our banner, we found out that many of you are getting excited as well! (And we thank everyone for their words of support and encouragement) Since our last post (and to name a few important recent developments) we’ve stuccoed the back building in a beautiful yellow tone, have succesfully built our heated rooftop patio and have started to build the latest website. We are now re-organizing and readying for the interior design of our 2 bar areas along with the dining room.
Our contractor, Eric Zondervan, has been meticulously updating his Flickr Picture Album with only the best pictures of our progress, so be sure to check those out by clicking here. Once on his page, simply click ‘Slideshow’ at the top right and enjoy the pictures! In the meantime, I’m including a few important shots below.
See you soon everyone!

Thanks to this improving weather, we’ve been able to buckle down and get all kinds of work done. Exciting! Walls have gone up, roofs are being built, floors are being gutted. The pictures on our Flickr gallery will do all the explaining.
On another note, while everyone has been getting dirty on-site, some of us have been working (in the shadows) on our new menu! And we’re incredibly excited about it. Keep you posted in the coming months on our new additions! Sorry to tease!
We still plan to open for late May/early June of this year and construction is running smoothly. In fact, we will even be handing out chocolates at the Easter parade in a few weeks to promote this. Hope to see you there!
Make sure to keep checking out our Flickr gallery for some uncut pictures of the construction progress! Click here to visit our Flickr gallery.
Thanks indefinitely for all your wonderful comments thus far! A bientôt les amis!

Hi everyone! We have been working very hard and are well underway with construction. Things are beginning to take shape and we are seeing steady, if not phenomenal, progress. Very exciting!
A total of 120 pictures have been uploaded to our Flickr Album, so be sure to check them out! Amongst the many pictures, we really want to show you one that was taken of the old brick found at the front of the restaurant. The bricks were laid in 1919 and have since been covered with concrete and mortar. We are determined to get it back to its original beautiful form — so here’s evidence of the first step (removing the mortar).
We now plan to open in late May/early June. Thank you for all your lovely comments and support so far! Hope to see you (very) soon!

Bonjour and welcome to our Blog!
This site will follow the construction of our New restaurant Le Papillon on the Park and will be updated regularly so that you may see the evalution of our latest creation.
Notre Histoire
Le Papillon originally took flight in 1974 when the restaurant introduced a unique flavour to Toronto’s restaurant scene. The restaurant offered such French and Quebecois classics as Crepes Bretonne, French Onion soup and Tourtiere. After serving Toronto for 34 successful years the partners have gone their separate ways to open two new restaurants - Le Papillon on the Park and Le Papillon on Front. This blog covers the development of Le Papillon on the Park, owned by Paul and Danielle Bigue.

Le Nouveau Restaurant
Le Papillon on the Park, located at 1001 Eastern Ave, will face a large, beautiful and soon to be redesigned and renovated park. Nestled right between the up and coming Leslieville and the well established Beaches areas, this is Le Papillon’s most accessible and exciting location yet!
Upon entering a restored brick house built in 1919, you will find our reception area and bar, both showered in natural sunlight. As you enter our main dining area you will find a warm and inviting space with a decor reminiscent of Quebec City and Old Montreal with a modern flair. This room boasts 3 wood burning fireplaces and beautiful french doors which allow you to look out onto the adjacent park. The dining room and bar are expected to seat 120 guests comfortably. Above the Dining area will be a large, tree-lined rooftop patio and bar, perfect for spring, summer and fall dining.
Le Menu
While keeping all your old Le Papillon favourites, we are now improving the menu by introducing a stronger Quebecois influence to the mix. Redolent of Paul and Danielle’s Quebecois backgrounds, we will be offering the flavours of Quebec with a new twist. In addition to this, we will be supporting local and independent farmers whilst serving the freshest and best quality foods available. Our new menu will continue to offer the very affordable prices we have always had.
On behalf of Paul, Danielle and everyone at Le Papillon we would like to thank you for 34 wonderful years of memories and look forward to welcoming you at our new location.
Thanks for dropping by and make sure you come back for news of construction and much more. Feel free to leave a comment below; we love to hear from everyone!
A la prochaine!

Hi everyone,
Unfortunately, our website was hacked this week and we lost everything on the database (posts, comments, registered accounts). Not to worry though - we are already working on this new site and should have it all together shortly!
Thanks for your patience. Check back soon!
